4月3日スタートする神木隆之介主演の連続テレビ小説『らんまん』（NHK総合ほか）の追加キャストとして、牧瀬里穂、宮澤エマ、池内万作、大東駿介、成海璃子、池田鉄洋、安藤玉恵、山谷花純、中村蒼、田辺誠一、いとうせいこうの出演が発表された。成海、田辺、いとうは連続テレビ小説初出演。
◆物語
江戸時代末期の１８６２年（文久２）３月、全国で尊王攘夷(そんのうじょうい)の機運が高まるなか、坂本龍馬が土佐藩を脱藩―― そのわずか１か月後、同じ土佐の地で酒造業を営む裕福な商家に待望の男の子が誕生する。のちの天才植物学者・槙野万太郎（まきの・まんたろう）である。
万太郎は、明るい性質だが、虚弱な子ども。なぜだか植物のことが好きで、集中すると周りのことも目に入らなくなってしまう。大人たちは不思議な子どもだと思っているが、母親の房子は、そんな万太郎に穏やかな愛情を注いでいた。しかし、万太郎が6歳の時、房子が病気で死去。父親も早くに亡くしていた万太郎は、祖母タキの手で育てられることになる。
タキは、名家の跡取りとして立派な男子に育てようと、万太郎を藩校に入れる。最初は学校生活になじめなかった万太郎だが、植物の名前と挿絵の載った本を見つけ、「その本が読みたい」という思いから、熱心に勉強するようになる。
その後、万太郎は学業の面でメキメキと頭角を現し、英語・地理・物理・天文など西洋の学問を次々と吸収していく。やがて明治新政府のもと新たな学校制度が始まり、万太郎も小学校に通い始めるが、その教育レベルの低さに物足りなさを感じて自主退学。その後は家業の手伝いもそこそこに、大好きな植物採集に明け暮れる生活を送るようになる。
東京上野で開催される「内国勧業博覧会」をきっかけに万太郎は初めて上京。その旅のなかで憧れの博物学者たちと出会い、日本各地の貴重な植物や海外から来た珍しい植物を目の当たりにする。「いつか必ず日本の植物のすべてを明らかにしたい！」―万太郎の植物学への情熱に火が付いた。万太郎は、東京帝国大学植物学教室の門をたたき、助手として働くことになる。水を得た魚のように研究に没頭し、新種を次々と発見、学名をつけていく万太郎。しかし、その活躍に嫉妬する教授陣から嫌がらせを受けたり、学歴がないことを理由に十分な給金をもらえないなど、理不尽な目にも多く合う。それでも、愛する植物のため、「日本独自の植物図鑑を編纂(へんさん)する」という夢のため、万太郎は情熱を失うことなく一途に突き進んでいく―。

What kind of person is Dr. Makino?
He is known as one of the founders of Japanese botanical taxonomy, naming more than 1,500 kinds of plants, including new species and cultivars. He published the Makino Japanese Botanical Encyclopedia, a must-have book for researchers and hobbyists even today. In response to requests from all over the country, he traveled around the country, widely conveying the importance of knowing plants to the general public, and also worked to spread plant knowledge. 1953 Honorary Citizen of Tokyo.

Riho Makise, Emma Miyazawa, Mansaku Ikeuchi, Shunsuke Daito, Riko Narumi, Tetsuhiro Ikeda, Tamae Ando will be added to the cast of the serial TV novel “Ranman” (NHK General, etc.) starring Ryunosuke Kamiki, which will start on April 3rd. ◆ story
In March of 1862 (Bunkyu 2), at the end of the Edo period, amid heightened nationwide momentum for reverence for the king and the expulsion of foreigners, Ryoma Sakamoto left the Tosa domain. A long-awaited baby boy is born to a wealthy merchant who runs a sake brewery. Mantaro Makino, who later became a genius botanist.
Mantaro is a bright, but frail child. For some reason, he likes plants, and when he concentrates, he loses sight of his surroundings. Adults think of him as a mysterious child, but his mother, Fusako, gives him a gentle affection. However, when Mantaro was six years old, Fusako died of an illness. Mantaro, whose father died early, was raised by his grandmother Taki.
Taki sends Mantaro to a clan school in order to raise him into a respectable boy as the heir to a prestigious family. At first, Mantaro finds it difficult to get used to school life, but when he finds a book with plant names and illustrations, he begins to study hard because he wants to read that book.
After that, Mantaro stands out in terms of academics, and absorbs Western learning such as English, geography, physics, and astronomy one after another. Before long, a new school system began under the new Meiji government, and Mantaro began attending elementary school, but felt unsatisfied with the low level of education and dropped out voluntarily. After that, he began to live a life full of his favorite plant collecting, with a little help in the family business.
Mantaro goes to Tokyo for the first time as a result of the “National Industrial Exhibition” held in Ueno, Tokyo. During that trip, he met naturalists he admired, and witnessed rare plants from all over Japan and rare plants from overseas. “Someday, I want to reveal all about Japanese
