    Thank you so much for reposting – I pray it stays up! I've bought the film numerous times, but it's great to have on the go like this 🥰 One of my favorite films ever… Kurosawa, imo, is in the top 3 filmmakers of all time! He made incredible films earlier but this is probably his first true masterpiece.

    Beautiful, painful, and compassionate. Fantastic story telling. I saw it as a teenager at Berkeley's PFA and a second time 45 years later here while sitting in New Delhi. Thank you for the wonderful experience.

    What a difference in attitudes! In most places cops would be seen beating criminals or subjecting them to some kind of torture. In the Japanese world it’s so subtle and actually sympathetic. Sago talks his people to revealing information. Everyone is so polite in all difficult situations. Loved the last scene amongst the flowers and the children singing. A true touch of class!
